ELK RAPIDS — It’s been a long seven years for the Rayders but the Charlevoix boys basketball team finally took down Elk Rapids on their home floor on Friday.

TRAVERSE CITY — The 10th annual Traverse City West Holiday Invitational saw 22 teams from all over the state make the trip to Traverse City and it gave teams and athletes a good barometer of where they sit about midway through the season.

Preston Ball, Jr., F, Elk Rapids (Player of the Year) — The junior captain has led Elk Rapids in scoring each of his three varsity seasons, including 30 goals in 2019.

TRAVERSE CITY — Following a heartbreaking first-round overtime loss at the Scott Miller Memorial Tournament on Thursday, the Traverse City Central Trojans poured on seven goals to beat Midland 7-5 on Friday at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City.

Adam Chittle, Sr., TC St. Francis, No. 1 singles: Had a 22-14 record in the top flight for the Glads and placed second in regionals. All-state honorable mention selection tallied 120 career wins.

Anci Dy, Traverse City West, Jr. (Player of the Year) — Won her Division 1 regional by 16 strokes, placed second in the state finals and named to the eight-player 2019 Super Team. Shot rounds of 76 and 73 at the finals to end up 3 shots behind eventual Miss Golf winner Allison Cui of Okemos. Shot three consecutive sub-70 rounds at Alpena, Charlevoix and Harbor Springs, including a 65 at the Charlevoix Invitational. Highest score of the season was a 76.

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central scored at least two goals in every period Friday to stay unbeaten with a 7-1 Big North Conference hockey victory over Alpena.

TRAVERSE CITY — The hockey season kicked off in a grand way Friday for Traverse City West. The Titans shut out state power Northville 2-0 at Howe Arena in Traverse City.

BROOKLYN — All season Hunter Jones has been putting up phenomenal numbers as a freshman for the Benzie Central’s cross-country team. The story was no different Saturday for the state finals at Michigan International Speedway.

ROCKFORD — Traverse City West looked completely different than the team that played Aug. 26.

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Central Trojans pulled out all of the stops Wednesday for Dig Pink night and used the energy to take down Big North Conference leader Cadillac in four sets.
