Trail re-surfacing project completed
GAYLORD -- The resurfacing work on the recreational rail-trail between Gaylord and Mackinaw City has been completed and the trail has been re-opened for public recreational use, according to Department of Natural Resources recreation officials.
The Gaylord to Mackinaw trail is open to snowmobile use in the winter, and is popular with hikers and bikers. The use of wheeled motorized vehicles is prohibited.
Separate construction projects will be occurring in two locations on the trail this fall. A tunnel is being installed three miles north of Gaylord under Parmater Road to provide a safe crossing for trail users. A project to direct rain or water run-off from damaging the trail surface is underway behind the Depot Building in Topinabee, five miles north of Indian River. Trail users are asked to watch for construction equipment and materials while these important projects are being completed.
