TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Pit Spitters used 13 hits to pile on the runs in a 10-5 victory over the Kokomo Jackrabbits at Pit Spitters Park on Wednesday.
The Pit Spitters (40-16) completed the four-game sweep of Kokomo behind a three-run home run by Daniel Head and a solid starting pitching performance from Chad Patrick.
Patrick tossed the first six innings, holding the Jackrabbits scoreless while giving up two hits and striking out four batters.
The Pit Spitters helped Patrick by piling on the runs early in the game, tallying two in the first inning and three in the fourth.
Kokomo scored their first run in the top of the sixth but Traverse City took no time to retaliate. The Spitters scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the margin 10-1.
Traverse City batted through the order in the sixth with RBIs from Riley Bertram, Hudson Byorick, Mario Camilletti, Michael Slaten and Ryan Hampe.
Kokomo threatened in the ninth while Luke Little had control issues and walked four batters in the inning. The Jackrabbits plated three runs in the ninth to reach the final score of 10-5.
Every Pit Spitter reached base in the game with eight of nine recording a hit.
Traverse City will head to Kalamazoo for a two game series with the Growlers (28-25).
