Brittany Barber's return was just what Marquette needed Thursday.
Barber won the slalom and placed second in the giant slalom to lead the Marquette girls to victory in the Marquette Invitational.
The Redettes, who took second to Traverse City Central without Barber in Tuesday's Petoskey-Harbor Springs Invitational, finished with 39 points. Central was second with 63 and Traverse City West third with 125.
Barber captured the slalom in 1:23.79. West's Tori Lockwood was a close second (1:23:99). Central's Maddy McLachlan was third (1:26.25). Marquette placed four in the top eight. Central's Ellen Whiting came in seventh (1:32.78) and Adrienne Bruder ninth (1:34.06).
Lockwood edged Barber 1:03.58 to 1:03.62 in the giant slalom. McLachlan placed third (1:03.65) and Petoskey's Victoria McVicker fourth (1:03.75). The Redettes again placed four in the top eight. Whiting finished seventh (1:05.63), Sierra Olsen ninth (1:06.17), Bruder 10th (1:06.39) and Mallory Weaver 11th (1:06.39).
Marquette also claimed the boys meet with 41 points. Petoskey was second with 84, West third with 93 and Central fourth with 109.
Marquette's Sam West swept the slalom (1:20.85) and giant slalom (1:01.44).
West's Cody Aiken finished second in both races (1:23.65 in the slalom, 1:01.76 in the giant slalom). West's Ryan Bondy was eighth in the giant slalom (1:03.81), Central's Clark Phelps 10th (1:04.13).
In the slalom, Phelps came in fifth (1:26.01) and Bondy eighth (1:28.67).
Ramblers, Rams win Lake Michigan meet
Kaleb McNamara swept the slalom and giant slalom as Boyne City captured a Lake Michigan Conference boys ski meet at Boyne Mountain.
The Ramblers finished with 38 points. St. Francis was second with 63 and Harbor Springs third with 82.
McNamara won the slalom in 1:00.13. He was followed by Drake Doherty of Harbor Springs (1:00.87), Sterling Adgate of Boyne City (1:02.34), Keaden Hornyak of St. Francis (1:02.64) and John Moschovich of St. Francis (1:05.39).
McNamara edged Doherty by a second in the giant slalom (43.61 to 44.6). Boyne City's Mike Cortwright was third (45.36). Stephen Siddall and Cole McCardel of St. Francis were fourth and fifth (45.53 and 45.64).
Harbor Springs claimed the girls race with 60 points. Boyne City placed second with 65 and St. Francis third with 74.
Boyne City's Cristina Roland was a double-winner, taking the giant slalom (44.89) and slalom (1:03.10).
In the giant slalom, Andi Shepherd of Harbor Springs finished second (45.81), Kaitlyn Bohnet of Boyne City third (46.87), Amanda Barnes of St. Francis fourth (47.75) and Cooper Dendel of Harbor Springs fifth (47.77).
Lillian Wiley of St. Francis was second to Roland in the slalom (1:07.63). Shepherd took third (1:07.71), Barnes fourth (1:08.97) and Emily Bajko of Charlevoix-East Jordan fifth (1:09.20).
