TRAVERSE CITY — Another walk-off, another win for the Traverse City Pit Spitters.
Traverse City defeated the Lakeshore Chinooks with a walk-off RBI single by Chris Faust in the bottom of the 11th inning in Thursday’s Northwoods League baseball game.
The 5-4 win marked the Pit Spitters 13th consecutive victory.
Playing under international tiebreaker rules, Drake Titus began the bottom of the 11th frame at second base. A fly ball to right field by Ryan Hampe moved Titus to third, and Chris Faust’s single drove Titus home.
Traverse City last walked off on June 30 against the Kenosha Kingfish.
The Pit Spitters (25-13) built a 4-1 lead through four innings thanks to a three-run third.
Michael Slaten walked, and Andrew Morrow blasted his fifth home run of the season to erase an early 1-0 deficit. Jake Wilson, in the next at-bat, made it back-to-back jacks.
It was Wilson’s second homer of the season.
The long balls kept coming in the fourth inning when Kam Smith led off with a solo blast of his own. It was Smith’s first home run of the season.
It seemed Chad Patrick might coast to a victory from the mound for the Pit Spitters, but in the seventh inning Patrick surrendered four straight singles. Only Troy Black had scored before Pat Hohlfeld replaced Patrick on the hill, but a fifth straight single by Daryl Myers plated two more Lakeshore runs, tying the game at four.
Patrick finished with a no decision, allowing four runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings of work. He walked one and struck out seven.
Hohlfeld pitched the final two outs of the seventh and was not charged with a run. Wyatt Rush pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Kevin Hahn earned the victory pitching three scoreless innings, despite two of those innings automatically placing a runner on second base.
The Chinooks (16-22) outhit the Pit Spitters 9-6, led by Myers 3-for-5 effort at the plate. Wilson was the only batter with two hits in the game for Traverse City.
The Pit Spitters will attempt to win their 14th straight game 7 p.m. Friday against Battle Creek at Pit Spitters Park.
