Pit Spitters' Wheatcroft drafted by Oakland A's
The opening day starter and right handed pitcher Chase Wheatcroft was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 37th round of the Major League Baseball Draft.
Wheatcroft becomes the first player from the new franchise to be drafted into the MLB. Wheatcroft earned the franchise's first win on May 28 and will be departing from the team in the coming days.
Drive, Chip and Putt qualifier at Boyne Mountain on June 24
The Drive, Chip and Putt local qualifier will be held at Boyne Mountain on June 24.
The event is open to children ages seven to 15 where the top three finishers in each age group for boys and girls will advance.

Races return to NMD after two weeks of weather delay
The Northern Michigan Dragway will continue the TNT Well Service points events this weekend June 7-8.

Manistee Saints home opener on Saturday
The Manistee Saints baseball team will host the Michigan Sports Academy-Livingston team for it's home opener on Saturday, June 8 at 1 p.m..
Opening Day ceremonies with the VFW Color Guard and ceremonial first pitch will start at 12:45 p.m.. Fans are asked to bring jars of peanut butter for the Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry as a part of their Grand Slam P-Nut Butter Day at the park.
Danny Passinault selected for MHSBCA All-Star game
Traverse City St. Francis senior outfielder Danny Passinault was the lone area player to be selected to the 38th annual Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game.
He was selected to the West squad and will be competing at Comerica Park in Detroit on June 20 at 7 p.m..
Traverse Bay Blues Women's Rugby Club hosting Prom Dress Rugby game
The Traverse Bay Blue Women's Rugby Club is hosting a Prom Dress Rugby game on Saturday, June 15 at 2 p.m. at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.
The event is designed to bring awareness to female rugby competition and to promote the benefits of participating in the sport.
The participants will wear real prom dresses for the match. There will be a post event gathering with tea, coffee and cherry pie.
