Pit Spitters add new utility player, waive Vanderpool

The Traverse City Pit Spitters have added Texas native Michael Slaten, from Benedictine College, to the roster after pitcher Chase Wheatcroft was drafted by the Oakland A's last week.

Slaten is a utility player who can lineup at third base, shortstop or outfield.

Also, the Spitters have waived the contract of temporary player Trey Vanderpool and a corresponding move will be annouced later.

Local golfers win Atlas Trophy Matches

Several local golfers participated in and won the 28th annual Women's Atlas Trophy Matches at Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort on Sunday.

Empire's Nichole Cox and Traverse City natives Anika Dy and Anci Dy won singles matches on Saturday to help lead the Public Team to a 15.5-8.5 victory.

Kingsley hires new varsity wrestling coach

Kingsley High School announced Monday that it has hired Corey Crew as the new varsity wrestling coach.

Crew graduated from Purdue University and was recently hired to teach special education at Kingsley.

Crew was most recently the coach for the wrestling team at Forest Area High School in 2017-2018 — he has also coached at TC West.
