West’s Rickert takes coaching job at Ottawa University

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West bowling coach Brian Rickert has accepted a coaching position at Ottawa University.

The Titans head coach will be a full-time assistant with the school in Ottawa, Kansas.

“I know that the program will be in great shape for the future as your character, confidence, commitment and compassion is the strongest I’ve seen,” Rickert said in a Facebook post.

Kalkaska’s Thorington takes job at Saginaw Heritage

KALKASKA — Kalkaska athletic director Justin Thorington accepted the position of district athletic director at Saginaw Heritage.

Thorington, a Traverse City Central graduate, served as the Blazers’ A.D. the last four season after one year at Dansville.

Szur retires as Lake Leelanau athletic director

LAKE LEELANAU — Lake Leelanau St. Mary athletic director Teresa Szur announced her retirement this week.

The longtime Eagles A.D., who also coaches softball and volleyball at the school, said she’ll stay on and continue to schedule basketball games until a replacement is found later this summer.

TCJGA holding used golf club sale

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Junior Golf Association will conduct a golf club sale at Bay Meadows Family Golf Course from Monday through Wednesday.

The sale runs from 4-8 p.m. each day.

The used clubs include sets for adults, women, juniors and lefties. Golf bags and golf shoes will also be available. All proceeds go towards the TCJGA ‘Chip In Fore Kids’ program that helps families in need who would like their kids to try golf.
