Jack Ocobock's scoop shot rolled around the rim and finally fell in as the buzzer sounded to give Kingsley a 32-30 boys basketball district victory Monday over a Benzie Central team that beat the Stags twice in the regular season.

The Huskies had tied the game with 50 seconds left on a Cory Taylor shot. Kingsley held the ball for a last shot before Ocobock was able to drive into the lane.

Ocobock finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Tristan Eikenroth added nine points and 10 boards and Deon Harrison scored all six of his points with three baseline jumpers in the second quarter.

Benzie had won by 20 and eight in two regular-season matchups. Connor Stapleton had 10 points Monday to lead the Huskies.

The Stags (10-11) host Mason County Central (8-12) on Wednesday.

In the other half of the draw, Cadillac (18-3) downed Manistee 67-46 to advance to play Ludington (10-10) on Wednesday.


At Charlevoix Boyne City      40 East Jordan      27

Boyne City survived East Jordan's slow-down tempo to post a 40-27 district win.

The Ramblers — who led 17-10 at halftime — were led by Ryan Carson's 11 points and five rebounds, while Jay Redman chipped in seven points and six boards.

Wyatt Werner led the Red Devils with 10 points.

Boyne City (15-6) moves on to play district host Charlevoix on Wednesday. The two split two regular-season meetings, with the Ramblers winning by 15 and the Rayders by one.


At Onaway Gaylord St. Mary      79 Burt Lake NMCA      77

Gaylord St. Mary upset Burt Lake NMCA in overtime to move on the Class D district semifinal on Wednesday.

A Matt Spyhalski free throw late gave the Snowbirds (11-10) a two-point lead in the extra session as St. Mary clawed back from a 15-point second-half deficit.

Spyhalski scored 19 points to lead five Snowbirds in double figures. Gabe Nowicki added 14, Pat Switalski 12 and Mike Stutesman and Charles Strehl each had 11.

Gaylord St. Mary plays Wolverine on Wednesday in Onaway.

Burt Lake (13-3) was led by 33 points from David Thompson and 16 by Stephen Thompson.

Bellaire      74 Ellsworth      31

Bellaire ended Ellsworth's season with a 74-31 district setback.

The Eagles were led by 16 points from Brandon Charboneau, 14 by Reece Koepke and 10 by Gus Meriwether.

Bellaire (20-1) moves on to play Alba on Wednesday prior to the Boyne Falls-Central Lake matchup.

Jake Seaney paced Ellsworth (6-14) with 19 points.


TC Central to hold team meeting today

Traverse City Central girls tennis will hold an organizational meeting today at the high school cafeteria.

The 5:30 p.m. meeting is for all varsity and junior varsity players and parents, and should take about a half hour.
