CARSON CITY — Jake Riggs pitched a seven-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts, using only 69 pitches, to deliver Brethren to Saturday's regional final with a 8-0 win over Fowler.
Riggs preserved his ability to pitch again Saturday by remaining under the 75-pitch limit, and he went 3-3 with a grand slam and a double at the plate.
Hunter Wojciechowski and Troy Macurio each went 1-3 with a run scored. Tyler Guinan and Jalen Huenther added hits.
"Jake was dealing and Gavin (Asiala) was squeezing everything behind the plate," Brethren coach Julie Riggs said.
Brethren (28-3, 16-0 WMD) will face Beal City in Saturday's regional final, but the Bobcats have to play a doubleheader against Mesick on Thursday to sort out a contested West Michigan D League race that was skewed by bad weather.
Glen Lake 3
Three errors played their role in ending Glen Lake's season, one in which the Lakers captured their eighth straight district championship and ninth in 10 tries.
Drew Peterson and Joey Fosmore combined to two-hit Johannesburg-Lewiston on Wednesday, but the Cardinals won 5-3 with the help of three unearned runs.
"Just a couple defensive lapses," Glen Lake coach Kris Herman said. "We had three errors that were big errors. We faced a good team and gave them three extra outs."
Glen Lake led 2-0 midway through four innings, but Joburg scored three in the bottom and one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Tanner Shimel (5.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 8 K) earned the win for Joburg, and Sheldon Huff picked up the save. Shimel also hit a home run at the plate.

Joburg will face Gaylord St. Mary in Saturday's regional final.

Gaylord St. Mary will face Johannesburg-Lewiston on Saturday.
Cadillac took the final and most crucial lead of the game in the seventh inning on a double, sacrifice bunt and a score on a throwing error en route to a 7-6 win over Petoskey.
