MANCELONA The Mancelona Ironmen pulled out a huge Ski Valley Conference win over Johannesburg-Lewiston, 67-64, at home on Thursday night.

Mancelona (10-4, 7-3) jumped out to an early eight point lead and held tough throughout, but the Cardinals (8-5) kept it close until the end.

Jayden Alfred led Mancelona with 20 points and 10 rebounds, including an electrifying dunk before the Ironmen took a 38-32 lead into half.

Mancelona spread the lead to 12 points in the second half but the Cardinals stormed back behind Tyson Claeys 21 points and 10 rebounds. Sheldon Huff also had 16 points, five assists and five rebounds for Joburg.

Matt Boyer added 20 points and Johnny Ancel scored 16 for Mancelona.

"I have a young team and I am very proud of them tonight," Ironmen head coach Brian Sheridan said. "We took care of the basketball and finished down the stretch for the win."

Mancelona will head to Bellaire on Tuesday while Joburg hosts Pellston.
