KALKASKA — Cameron Cavanaugh buried a 3-pointer with nine seconds left to lift Kalkaska to a 50-48 non-conference victory Saturday over Morley-Stanwood.

Cavanaugh led the Blazers with 15 points and five assists, while Austin Cooper had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Kalkaska (2-3) hosts Traverse City St. Francis on Friday.

 

GIRLS HOOPS

TC West 44

Lowell 36

Katie Placek had a huge night and Traverse City West's defense did the rest as the Titans posted a 44-36 road victory over Lowell.

Placek had 21 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. Paris Wagner added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Titans (4-2) led 20-15 at halftime, and host a pair of Big North Conference games this week, with Petoskey on Tuesday and Gaylord on Friday.

Jordan Robbins scored nine points to lead the JVs in a 42-26 setback.

 

Lake Leelanau SM 33

Hale 21

Hanna Grant scored seven of her nine points in a second-quarter run that put Lake Leelanau St. Mary's in control during a 33-21 non-conference win over Hale.

The Eagles — who have won three in a row and are 4-3 on the season — led 9-5 after one quarter before erupting for a 15-6 second-quarter advantage. Each team scored two points in the third quarter.

Hannah Weber also scored nine for Lake Leelanau, while Lindsey Boone added seven.

The Eagles (2-0 Cherryland Conference) return to league play Wednesday at Grand Traverse Academy.

 

Manistee 51

Shelby 34

Manistee rung up 19 first-quarter point to establish an early lead and keep the Chippewas' undefeated record intact.

The Chips defeated Shelby 51-34 on the road.

Audrey Tomaszewski led Manistee (7-0) with 14 points and four steals, while Emily Kott had 11 points and six steals, Annie Fuller scored nine points and Emily Compton eight. Jessica Gustad grabbed nine rebounds and had five steals.

The Chippewas host Benzie Central on Wednesday.

Hale 55

Lake Leelanau SM 53

Hale's Levi Sanders hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to hand Lake Leelanau St. Mary's a 55-53 overtime setback.

The Eagles' Jack Garthe converted a three-point play at the end of regulation to send the game into an extra session. Garthe made the front end of two free throws, then missed the second, grabbed his own rebound and put it in at the buzzer to knot up the game.

Garthe finished with 23 points and Dan Duperon had 16 for Lake Leelanau (0-5), which opens up Cherryland Conference play Monday at Traverse City Christian.

 

WRESTLING

West has 2 placers at Parma Western

Traverse City West had one champion and two total placers at the Parma Western Invitational.

Vincent Priante won the 112-pound weight class with a perfect 3-0 record on the day to increase his season record to 16-1.

Zac Provost was 3-1 at 145 pounds to place third.

Max Chalmers (119), Jaxon Lebreck (135), Austin Cochrane (140) and Mike Lambert (152) each had two wins on the day.

The Titans open up Big North Conference action Wedesday at Gaylord.
