Pit Spitters swept on road trip

ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Traverse City Pit Spitters are mired in the franchise's first extended losing streak, which reached four games after TC's 4-3 loss to the Rockford Rivets on Thursday.

The Pit Spitters (4-6) led, then trailed and finally tried to rally before falling one run short.

Traverse City scored two runs in the opening frame on a two-RBI double by Daniel Head.

Rockford answered with two in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Matt Higgins and a passed ball.

Rockford added two more runs an inning later with a two-run home run by Jeff Heinrich.

The rest of the evening held scoreless, apart from a Pit Spitters fielder's choice in the fifth inning that plated Mario Camilletti.

Garett Simmons took the loss to Traverse City in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in four innings of work. He walked three and struck out eight.

Zack Jones picked up the win for Rockford, and Kyle Seebach notched the save.

Jake Wilson led the Spitters at the plate, going 3 for 5 with a run scored. Camilletti was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Traverse City returns to Pit Spitters Park on Friday to begin a series with the Kenosha Kingfish after going 0-4 on the road trip.
