UNIVERSITY CENTER — Spencer Montcastle (TC West) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships when he scored 4,731 points to earn a sixth-place finish in the men's heptathlon at the GLIAC Indoor Championships. Montcastle's best finish in the event came in the 60-meter dash, which he won in 7.19 seconds. The indoor finals are scheduled for March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala.

TRACK AND FIELD

ALMA: Blair Secord (Gaylord) took third in the shot put (11.26 meters) and fourth in the weight throw, with a personal best of 12.98 in helping the Scots take third at the Trine Indoor Track and Field Championships.

HOPE: Boone Marois (TC Central) took first in the 60 meters in a time of 7.0 at the Trine Indoor Invitational...Jeremy Richards (Forest Area) was third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.15).

MICHIGAN STATE: Julia Otwell (TC Central) scored points for the Spartans with a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters (16:24.45) at the Big Ten Indoor Championships...Connor Kostrzewa (TC West) placed seventh in the men's weight throw with a personal record of 20.20 meters...Riley Norman (Cadillac) had a personal best in the weight throw with a 19.72.

BASEBALL

ALMA: Roderick MacNeil threw one inning in a 7-3 loss to Houghton.

CORNERSTONE: Rachel Bode (Manton) went 2 for 2 in a 5-3 win over Grace and scored a run in a 7-6 loss to Northwood (Fla.)...Emily Bode (Manton) was 2 for 3 in a 3-0 win over Judson.

DAVENPORT: Ryan Manning (Suttons Bay) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs in a 10-4 win over Goshen.

MICHIGAN STATE: Walt Borkovich (TC West) pitched a third of an inning in a 5-0 loss to UCLA.

MUSKEGON COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Damon Proctor (Cheboygan) threw a complete game three-hitter, with nine strikeouts, as the Jayhawks defeated nationally-ranked USC-Sumter 1-0...Joey Kniss (TC West) had a single and scored a run in the win over USC-Sumter, and collected two hits in a 3-0 victory over Coastal Carolina.

WAYNE STATE: Kyle Zimmerman (Frankfort) worked seven innings, allowing four hits, two runs, three walks and striking out seven in a 5-4 loss to Trevecca Nazarene. Zimmerman went 3 for 5 in a 2-1 win over Trevecca Nazarene and drove in three runs over the course of three games for the Warriors.

BASKETBALL

BUCKNELL: Chris Hass (Pellston) had two points and one rebound in a 71-69 victory over American that clinched the Patriot League regular season title...Cory Starkey (Petoskey) had two rebounds and two assists.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN: John Simons (Cadillac) led the way with 28 points and eight rebounds in an 85-77 win over Toledo that clinched at least a share of the Mid-American Conference West Division title. Simons also had five points and six rebounds in a 73-55 loss to Northern Illinois...Kerby Tamm (Petoskey) scored six points in a 62-53 loss to Toledo.

HILLSDALE: Ian Sheldon (TC St. Francis) scored three points in a 65-61 win over Saginaw Valley State.

LAKE SUPERIOR STATE: Kelsey Ance (Petoskey) scored a team-leading 16 points and also grabbed six boards in a 78-73 loss to Northwood...Stephanie Fisher (Joburg) had 12 points...Mackenzie Edwards (Gaylord) scored nine points and pulled down four rebounds.

MADONNA: Zak Lewis (Petoskey) scored two points and grabbed four rebounds in a 91-65 loss to Northwestern Ohio.

MICHIGAN TECH: Kelli Guy (Kalkaska) scored 15 points, and had four assists and three rebounds in a 67-49 victory over Hillsdale in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals. Guy also tallied 10 points and three assists in a 63-50 win over Northern Michigan to finish the regular season.

SAGINAW VALLEY STATE: Abby Schlicher (Joburg) had 12 points in a 79-71 win over Hillsdale.

GOLF

TEXAS WESLEYAN: Nikolaj Brons-Piche (TC Central) shot rounds of 74 and 66 to card a 36-hole total of 140 that tied him for second individually at the Shootout in San Antonio. The Rams, ranked ninth in the nation, were third as a team.

GYMNASTICS

MICHIGAN STATE: Holly Ryan (TC Central) finished in second place with a career-high score of 9.875 in the vault as the Spartans won a quad meet at Towson.

HOCKEY

FERRIS STATE: Jared VanWormer (TC Central) recorded an assist in a 2-1 loss to Bemidji State...C.J. Motte (TC North Stars) made 22 saves in the loss to Bemidji State, then made 23 saves in a 1-1 tie against the Beavers.

HOPE: Caleb Morgan (TC Central) had three assists in a 6-1 win over Oakland in the championship game of the Vezina Cup. In a 5-2 semifinal win over Calvin, Morgan also tallied an assist.

MICHIGAN TECH: David Johnstone (TC North Stars) and Chris Leibinger (TC North Stars) each scored a goal in a 4-2 loss to Minnesota State.

WESTERN MICHIGAN: Chris Dienes (TC West) had an assist in a 2-2 draw against Colorado College.

SOFTBALL

ADRIAN: Kallie Derrer went 1 for 1 with an RBI in a 9-0 victory over Rose Hulman. She scored a run in a 12-2 victory over Potsdam State.

ALMA: Katherine Hybl (Charlevoix) went 2 for 3 in a 5-4 loss to Capital and was 1 for 3 in an 8-0 loss to Houghton.

FINLANDIA: Amanda Youker (Buckley) had two home runs among seven hits and drove in five runs over the course of six games.

LAKE SUPERIOR STATE: Emily Estep (Onaway) had a double among three hits, drove in four runs and scored a run in three wins to start the season for the Lakers.

OAKLAND: Lauren Mead (Gaylord) scored a run in each game as the Golden Grizzlies went 2-1 at the USF Under Armour Invitational.

WRESTLING

OLIVET: Thomas Hall (Forest Area) earned three wins to take sixth in the 197-pound division at the Division III Midwest Regionals.
