Forest Area 77
A balanced attack led Forest Area to a 77-57 Ski Valley Conference win over Johannesburg-Lewiston.
The Warriors were led by Ryan McGee (13 points, seven rebounds), Reece Freeman (10 points, three steals), Bobby Stile (13 points), Justin Burke (13 points, five assists, five rebounds) and Austin Vance (nine points, five rebounds, five assists).
Vance’s defense helped key a 21-7 run to start the second half after Forest Area led just 33-30 at the intermission.
Jake Newell scored 13 for Joburg.
The Warriors (2-1, 1-1 SVC) travel Monday to Traverse City Christian.
Central Lake 48
Bellaire remained undefeated with a 60-48 road win over rival Central Lake.
Reese Koepke and Gus Meriwether each scored 13 points for the Eagles, while Keith Poel added 12.
The Eagles (3-0, 1-1 SVC) host Alanson on Tuesday.
Patrick Sutherland paced Central Lake with 12 points and Zach Harvey and Wyatt Kemintzer each had 11. The Trojans (1-2, 0-2 SVC) travel Monday to Atlanta.
Brandon Miller and David Loney each posted double-doubles as Frankfort topped Kingsley 56-50 in Northwest Conference action.
Miller had 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Loney put up 14 points and 13 boards.
The Panthers (2-1, 1-0 NWC) are off until hosting the Port City Tournament Dec. 27-28 featuring Traverse City Christian, Manistee Catholic Central and Northport.
Jack Ocobock scored 19 points to lead Kingsley, pitching in 17 in the second half to lead a Stags comeback attempt that was thwarted by Frankfort’s free-throw shooting.
The Stags’ Austin Nagy had eight points and Travis Debello seven. Kingsley (1-3, 0-1) is off until after the Christmas break, hosting Elk Rapids on Jan. 3.
Leland held off Buckley for a 52-47 Northwest Conference victory to hand the Bears their first loss of the season.
The Comets were led by Alex Whittaker’s 14 points, as well as 13 from Ian Duvall and 10 from Sawyer Scott.
Buckley (3-1, 0-1 NWC) received 17 points and 14 rebounds from Evan Chalker, who insisted on playing despite a temperature over 100. Joel Ledford added 15 points.
Suttons Bay 51
Suttons Bay used a big second-quarter effort to post a 51-32 Northwest Conference win over Mesick.
The Norse led by just four after the first stanza, then broke it open with a 17-3 second-quarter spurt.
Mason Darling scored 13 points and Cameron Tarlton 12 for Suttons Bay (3-0, 1-0 NWC), which travels Monday to Lake Leelanau St. Mary’s.
Thane Herbet paced Mesick with 13 points.
Glen Lake 71
Benzie Central 57
Glen Lake burst out of the gates to open up a 42-26 halftime lead on Benzie Central in a 71-57 Northwest Conference victory.
Mike O’Brien went off for 34 points and nine rebounds in the win for the Lakers (2-2, 1-1 NWC). Parker Kokowicz added 11 points and Dylan Wendels grabbed eight rebounds.
Benzie was paced by 15 from Corey Weaver, 13 by Cory Taylor and 11 each from Connor Stapleton and Corey Bock.
Glen Lake hosts McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Tuesday.
Manistee CC 53
Mason Co. Eastern 49
Zach Bialik’s 3-pointer in the fourth quarter gave Manistee Catholic Central a lead it would hold on to for a 53-49 Western Michigan D League win over Mason County Eastern.
Bialik scored 35 points for the Sabers, who jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but found themselves down 45-44 in the fourth before Bialik’s triple.
Nathan Papes added eight points and seven rebounds and Ben Feliczak grabbed seven caroms for Manistee CC (2-1, 2-0 WMD). The Sabers host Brethren on Tuesday.
Austin Martin had 16 and Tyler Thurston 14 for the Mason County.
Ellsworth picked up its first victory of the season with a 47-29 victory over Alanson that was fueled by turnover created by the Lancers’ half-court press.
Matt Barrow and Chris Wyse each scored 15 for Ellsworth (1-2, 1-0 Northern Lake Conference), which hosts Mancelona on Tuesday.
Bobby Sprowle had 13 for Alanson.
A 14-2 third-quarter run allowed Traverse City Bulldogs Athletic Association to pull away from Northport.
The Wildcats pulled to within 12-9 at halftime.
Molly Plamondon scored 13 points and Casie Plamondon had seven steals and seven rebounds for the TCBAA (7-2). Nina Muller topped Northport with 10 points.

Suzanne Britten’s 14 points led Traverse City St. Francis to a close 44-40 junior varsity win over Kalkaska.
Molly Callery added nine for the Gladiators (3-2), while the Blazers were paced by Kendra Gail and Taylor Birgy with 10 points each.
