Baseball team gets mascot, logo next Tuesday

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City's newest baseball team will reveal its mascot and logo in an event next Tuesday.

The unveiling — which is open to the public — will occur at the State Theatre Jan. 29 at 11:30 a.m.

The final six names in contention are the Black Pearls, Dogmen, Dune Bears, Pit Spitters, Sasquatch and Tree Shakers.

A free showing of the classic baseball move “The Sandlot” follows the announcement. Free popcorn, Cracker Jack and beverages will be provided. Doors for the event open at 11 a.m.

While the event is free, fans will need to reserve tickets in person at the State Theatre box office, by calling 947-3447 or online at https://www.stateandbijou.org with a 50-cent processing fee per transaction.

Team merchandise and season tickets will be available at the theater and on the team website immediately following the announcement.

Traverse City Baseball is in its first year as a member of the Northwoods League, a 22-team collegiate summer baseball league that plays from the end of May through mid-August. Last fall, a group of investors led by the West Michigan Whitecaps purchased Wuerfel Park from Traverse City Beach Bums owners John and Leslye Wuerfel and started the new franchise.
