A cleaner world
Many thanks to the Traverse City Commission for its actions at the Sept. 23 meeting. Commissioners took several important steps to reduce carbon pollution and help build a cleaner world. Specifically, commissioners voted to:
• Begin powering municipal operations using Traverse City Light & Power’s “green rate,” which will help the city meet its renewable energy targets.
• Move forward with a proposal to establish the Residential Clean Energy Financing Plan by scheduling a public hearing Oct. 7. The program would provide low-interest loans for energy improvements to homes.
• Pass a resolution supporting the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (HR 763), a bill currently in the U.S. House of Representatives that proposes a market-based approach to reducing carbon while supporting innovation and economic growth.
Together these actions place Traverse City in a leadership role in addressing the carbon pollution that is affecting climate, health, agriculture, water quality…the list goes on. I am proud to live in a community committed to the health and well-being of our planet and future generations. Thank you, commissioners, for your forward thinking and bold leadership.
