TRAVERSE CITY — Michigan State Police officials confirmed detectives are investigating an incident that involved a Grand Traverse County toddler who suffered severe burns.
Details remained murky Monday morning, as officials from the state police's Rockford post declined to discuss what they called an open investigation.
Grand Traverse County sheriff’s Lt. Chris Barsheff said a sergeant from his department learned on March 28 from a Children’s Protective Services employee that a child, 2, suffered severe burns. He referred questions to state police.
Barsheff said he didn’t know the child’s gender or when exactly the incident occurred. He said the child lived in Garfield Township and was transported at some point to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment.
