The National Weather Service office in Gaylord has issued a Lakeshore Flood Advisory and Beach Hazards Statement that are in effect until 8 p.m. today.
High water levels, wind gusts up to 30 mph, and 2- to 4-foot waves will lead to flooding and beach erosion along the Lake Michigan shoreline, an NWS release states. Waves could submerge pier decks and rivers that empty into Lake Michigan may have water overtopping their banks.
The Beach Hazards Statement impacts Leelanau, Benzie and Manistee counties.
"Life threatening waves and currents are expected," a release states. "Stay out of the water and stay away from dangerous areas like piers and breakwalls."
