TRAVERSE CITY -- Northwestern Michigan College honored two faculty members with awards in excellence.
Economics instructor Amjad Khan is the college's 2009 Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award winner, while accounting instructor Gary Sanborn is the 2009 Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award winner. The awards were announced at the May 2 commencement ceremony.
Award winners are chosen by a student selection committee and are based on teaching excellence, rapport with students, innovation in the classroom and a sense of dedication.
Khan joined NMC in 2006 as a social science instructor and Sanborn has been an adjunct accounting instructor since 2002.
The Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award was started through a contribution from longtime college benefactors Harold and Imogene Wise in 1970 and was first awarded the following year. The NMC Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award was created as a companion award in 1999.
