TRAVERSE CITY — State officials certified results of Northwestern Michigan College faculty members' recent vote to form a union.

The certification by the Michigan Employee Relations Commission on Monday paves the way for NMC's non-supervising faculty to begin collective bargaining with college administrators, said Jason Moon, a spokesman for the state department of licensing and regulatory affairs.

Sixty-five faculty members cast 'yes' votes in the MERC unionization election, compared to 16 'no' votes and one spoiled ballot.
