TRAVERSE CITY — Interest in changing lake trout regulations on Grand Traverse Bay spawned a move for the Department of Natural Resources to take public comment in a larger venue.

East Bay Township's offices, 1965 N. Three Mile Road, are now the site for the March 6 meeting, now set for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

State-licensed anglers must curb their total catch this year after exceeding the court-ordered limit in 2018. The DNR is considering three scenarios for scaling back the lake trout take:

n Season would run June 15 through Sept. 2 with 15-inch minimum size limit and two-fish daily possession limit.

n Season would run July 1 through Sept. 30 with 15-inch minimum size limit and two-fish daily possession limit.

n Season would run May 25 through Sept. 2 with a 15-inch minimum limit. Possession limit would be one fish per day May 25 through June 30 and a two-fish limit July 1 through Sept. 2.

Those who can't make the meeting can submit comments by calling Heather Hettinger at 231-922-6056 or Scott Heintzelman at 231-775-9727, emailing hettingerh@michigan.gov or heintzelmans@michigan.gov, or mailing or dropping off written comments at the DNR Traverse City Customer Service Center, 2122 South M-37, Traverse City, MI 49685. Send comments by March 8.
