TRAVERSE CITY — National Cherry Festival officials begin the selection process for the next National Cherry Queen this weekend. Ten women are competing for the 2019-20 crown.

Four finalists will be named at a free event Saturday at St. Francis High School. The candidates will join current National Cherry Queen Grace Boyles' court during this year’s festival, June 29 through July 6. The 2019-20 National Cherry Queen will be crowned at the Queen’s Ball on July 5.

Each of the four finalists receives a $1,250 scholarship to the school of their choice and the new cherry queen will receive a total scholarship package of $8,250.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis High School's auditorium; the selection ceremony starts at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public.
