A Traverse City man died after he jumped off a public transit bus and ran into oncoming traffic, deputies said.
The man, 23, died Thursday night after a motorist struck him along Hammond Road, Grand Traverse sheriff's deputies said. The victim was on board a Bay Area Transportation Authority bus when he opened the emergency exit door toward the back of the bus and jumped off. The bus was not moving at the time.
He ran into oncoming traffic, and was eventually struck by a vehicle. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.
