A group working to repeal Michigan's emergency financial manager law will hold a kick-off event in downtown Traverse City.
The Reject Emergency Managers Steering Committee will launch its petition drive Saturday at the Open Space from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Petitioners also will be collecting signatures around the city throughout the day.
Similar events are planned throughout the state.
Gov. Rick Snyder signed the emergency manager law in March. It gives financial managers broader powers to correct communities' and school districts' finances. Under the law, they can restructure contracts and take away elected officials' power.
