TRAVERSE CITY — A woman ended up in the hospital Tuesday after investigators said her boyfriend choked, beat and sexually assaulted her.
The incident took place at what Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Department Lt. Brian Giddis called the man’s “makeshift residence” off South Airport Road just before midnight.
Law enforcement now hunt for her alleged attacker — a 46-year-old Traverse City man Giddis said is the accuser’s boyfriend of three years.
He fled before deputies arrived.
The woman, also from Traverse City, was treated at Munson Medical Center, Giddis said.
Investigators have recommended charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, domestic violence with strangulation and disconnecting a phone, he added. Giddis said the sheriff’s office is working with U.S. marshals to find and detain the man.
