TRAVERSE CITY — Alcohol distributor Great Lakes Wine & Spirits acquired Traverse City-based Wicksall Distributors, Inc.
Both companies distribute beer and wine to retail stores.
Wicksall Distributors has 60 employees and services nearly 600 retailers in Antrim, Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Kalkaska, Wexford and Missaukee counties. It sells beer and wine from 45 different suppliers, including five Michigan breweries and six Michigan wineries, representing more than 200 brands.
“It’s time for me to head into retirement,” said Pat Wicksall, majority owner of Wicksall Distributors. "Great Lakes Wine & Spirits has an impressive track record of keeping employees and the community engagement intact as they have acquired business in new markets.”
Great Lakes Wine & Spirits distributes beer, wine and liquor across the state including in the Traverse City area. It already has dozens of employees in the region and services hundreds of accounts here. It offers products from 475 suppliers encompassing 2,300 brands.
Great Lakes Wine & Spirits is Michigan’s largest wine, liquor and beer distributor. Its 900 employees and eight facilities across the state service nearly 17,000 accounts in all 83 of the state's counties. It has eight depots, in Gaylord, Petoskey, Detroit, Highland Park, Kalamazoo, Marquette, Grand Rapids and Bay City.
