LANSING — The Michigan DNR is waiving its Recreation Passport entrance fees to state parks, trails, historic sites and other areas Nov. 23 as part of the #OptOutside movement. The Black Friday event — started in 2015 by outdoor recreation cooperative REI Inc. — encourages people to spend more time outside and highlights the health and well-being benefits of being outdoors.

Halifax explosion discussion

ORV comments sought

LANSING — The Michigan DNR is accepting comments until Dec. 7 on proposed changes to rules governing off-road vehicle use on state forest roads in the northern Lower Peninsula. Proposed changes include adding roads that previously were unmapped, deleting mapped roads that no longer exist, closing roads to conventional vehicle use (including ORVs), closing roads only to ORV use, and opening roads to ORV use.

Winter camp Jan. 2-4
