Soup and Bread fundraiser

TRAVERSE CITY — The next Soup and Bread event occurs from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 12 at The Little Fleet. Local restaurants provide the food. Donations support Human Nature School. This community meal supports a different charity each month.

Veterans’ dinner

TRAVERSE CITY — The Elks Lodge #323 hosts its third annual free veterans buffet from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 4. Food includes two entrees, salad, bread, vegetable, potato, dessert and beverages. Holiday Cookie Exchange

TRAVERSE CITY — Lucky’s Market hosts Impact Day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Nov. 6. Ten percent of sales will be donated to Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.

Sister Pie returns Nov. 6-7

LELAND — Leland Lodge hosts Lisa Ludwinski and Anji Reynolds of Detroit’s Sister Pie Nov. 6-7. The bakers celebrate the release of their cookbook “Sister Pie — Recipes and Stories of a Big Hearted Bakery in Detroit.” A cocktail hour, dinner and book signing are set for Nov. 6. IPA Challenge Nov. 8

TRAVERSE CITY — The annual IPA Challenge is on from 5:30-10 p.m. Nov. 8 at The Little Fleet. Ten local breweries compete for the “Best IPA.” Beer lovers can choose their favorite drink during this blind tasting. This event kicks off Traverse City Beer Week. Coffee and books event

BELLAIRE — The “Beans & Books” event occurs at 10 a.m. Nov. 9 at Bellaire Public Library. Sip on a free cup of coffee from McDonalds while browsing books at the library. This event occurs every Friday.

Bags for Change program

TRAVERSE CITY — Lucky’s Market hosts its Bags for Change program Nov. 11 through Feb. 2. Shoppers who bring reusable grocery bags can donate 10 cents to Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan. The store plans to double this donation at the end of the quarter. People can also drop off non-perishable items until Dec. 26.

Food, disease talk canceled

TRAVERSE CITY — Plant-Based Lifestyles Traverse City canceled the Nov. 12 talk “Overfed and Undernourished: The Relationship Between Food, Disease and Health.” The group is using this time to obtain a new meeting venue and secure speakers for 2019.

Meals for Musicians fundraiser

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central High School Eurochorale hosts the Meals for Musicians fundraiser from 4:30-8 p.m. Nov. 13 at Red Mesa Grill. Ten percent of food sales support the choir students’ trip to Europe in 2019.
