TRAVERSE CITY — Keith Ferguson pleaded guilty to first-degree and second-degree murder in the slayings of his wife and father-in-law.
Ferguson, 40, accepted the pleas today in a volatile appearance in Kalkaska County's 46th Circuit Court. Judge George Mertz called a short recess at one point after Ferguson spouted profanities, said Kalkaska County Prosecutor Mike Perreault.
The outburst recalled Ferguson's similarly profane Nov. 19 court appearance, less than a day after authorities said he killed his wife Tiffany Anne Ferguson, 42, and her stepfather, James Harley Webber, Jr., 63, in two separate shootings.
Perreault said the first-degree murder charge carries a mandatory penalty of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
