The following students earned bachelor’s degrees from Alma College during 2018: Blake Beyer, of Traverse City; and Paige Emerson and Jonathan Gottwald, both of Lake Ann.

The following students graduated from the Michigan State Police 135th Trooper Recruit School in April: Kaitlyn Bielecki, of Mancelona; and Jeffrey Patterson, Kristina Droste, Nicholas Reszka, Tyler Knowles, Kyle Lott, Tyler Floering and Kial Wade, all of Traverse City.

The Kiwanis Club of Traverse City recognized the following students of the month for the week of April 2:

Traverse City West Senior High School Senior Hallie Snowday is a member of choir (treasurer), National Honor Society, Choral-Aires and Bella Voce (choreographer). She participated in four high school musicals, the school’s theater department, Company Dance Traverse/Dance Arts Academy and at the Old Town Playhouse. She received three Academic, the Legacy Robe, TC West Choir Leadership and Most Musical awards. She was a state finalist at the Verdi Opera Competition and the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Solo and Ensemble Festival. Snowday maintains a 3.94 GPA and plans to study performance/theater and business in college.

Samuel DeKuiper, a senior at TC West, played varsity baseball and football. He is a four-year honor roll student and received the second team All-Conference Baseball (sophomore year), second team All-Conference Football quarterback (junior year), All Conference, All District Baseball, Record-Eagle All-Region Baseball Dream Team (senior year) and Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Academic All State Individual awards. He maintains a 3.9 GPA and plans to study mechanical engineering and play baseball at Lawrence Tech University.

Bellahna Weathers is a senior at Grand Traverse Academy. She is a member of National Honor Society and choir and helps elementary students in art class. She received academic honors for four years and was on the Class of 2019 Honor Court. Weathers maintains a 3.9 GPA and plans to study psychology and mental health disorders at Northwestern Michigan College.

The following students recently earned a degree from Western Governors University, an online nonprofit: Renee Zywicki, of Grawn; and Kathleen Zimmerman, Rhiannon Cirone-Diffin, Tishri Hosler, Abigail Kohler and Taffetta Gle, all of Traverse City.

The Kiwanis Club of Traverse City recognized St. Francis High School senior Jonathon Boehmer as student of the month for the week of April 9:

Boehmer is a member of Kiwanis Key Club, National Honor Society and Athletes in Faith. He played varsity football and lacrosse and participated in track and field. He played in the marching band and worked on the tech crew for a school play. Boehmer was named to the High Honor Roll and received an AP Scholar Award, Academic All-State Dream Team for football and Scholar-Athlete awards. He maintains a 4.22 weighted GPA and plans to study political science at the University of Notre Dame.
