TRAVERSE CITY -- School's expected to be back on the menu for elementary school students in Elk Rapids who got a day off after a broken boiler pipe caused the heat to shut off and school officials to close Lakeland Elementary School.
Elk Rapids Schools Superintendent Stephen Prissel closed the school this morning. Now the pipe is fixed and school will be in session on Wednesday. The day off will count as an inclement weather day.
No damage occurred to the school, Prissel said.
"It didn’t get very cold because the maintenance supervisor picked it up early and started working on it immediately," Prissel said. "It wasn’t suitable for pre-K through 5th (grade) students."
About 400 students from Elk Rapids Village and the surrounding area attend the school.
