Barn destroyed, farm animals die in fire

MANCELONA — Several farm animals died in an early morning blaze that destroyed a barn in an area north of Mancelona.

Firefighters from Mancelona, Star Township and Bellaire responded to the fire in Antrim County's Chestonia Township at about 1 a.m. Tuesday but were unable to save the structure. Crews remained at the Doerr Road address for about three hours, said Star Township Fire Chief Pete Hoogerheide.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
