TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse County sheriff's officials believe bomb threats at a group of 7-11 stores all were part of a scam attempt.
Stores on Barlow Street, Cochlin Avenue and 14th Street all received phone calls on Tuesday at about 1:40 p.m. from someone who said a bomb was set to go off inside the stores in 15 minutes if the owner did not send money via a prepaid debit card, officials said.
The sheriff's canine explosives detection team checked the area in and around the Barlow Street store and did not find any explosive devices or suspicious items. Traverse City police officers investigated the other two store locations.
The call originated from another state, officials said.
