TRAVERSE CITY -- Jeff Cobb has been named the new director of the Cherry Capital Chorus.
Well-known for his work as director of choirs at Traverse City Central High School, Cobb left the school a few years ago to write music and embark on a variety of other musical ventures. Current director of the Interlochen All-State Choir, he also is director of music at Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City as well as music director for Miracle Productions summer musicals at the Dennos Museum Center.
The Cherry Capital Chorus is entering its 42nd year of performing barbershop harmony and a cappella singing. The group meets at The Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster at Airport Access Road, each Tuesday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. In addition to engagements and concerts that include the annual June Night of Harmony, set for June 13 and 14 this year, the group also offers Singing Valentines on Feb. 14.
The chorus is holding an introductory open house and guest night on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church. Men of all ages who like to sing are invited to attend and meet Cobb and other chorus members and find out more about joining the chorus. The group's goal is to expand its current 50-man membership. Members come from throughout the five-county Grand Traverse region.
