TRAVERSE CITY -- Three artists are coming to Artcenter Traverse City to demonstrate their craft.
The Summer Workshop Series features one artist per month hosting a demonstration at the center, 720 S. Elmwood, on a Sunday afternoon. The artist then donates artwork for auction, with the proceeds going to the Artcenter, and holds a workshop the following week.
The series kicks off Sunday 3-5 p.m., with Mary Ann Beckwith, of Houghton.
Beckwith will be teaching an experimental watercolor workshop, "The Brush and Beyond," Monday through Friday. She often adds unexpected elements to her paintings, like a piece of rust found on the street, and the circles in her paintings are created by paper plates to block in the color she wants to keep.
July's artist is Chinese watercolorist Lian Zhen, now a resident of Reno, Nev. He started sketching and painting when he was 10 and will teach Chinese painting and watercolor. His demonstraion is scheduled for July 26 from 3 to 5 p.m., with his Chinese watercolor workshop, "East Meets West," scheduled for July 27-31.
The final demonstration will be by portrait artist Joe Fettingis. Fettingis is from Logansport, Ind., and concentrates on portraits and landscapes. He will teach his students about framing faces in portraits, among other things, during a demonstration Aug. 9, 3-5 p.m., and a "Color-Color-Color" workshop Aug. 10-14.
Reservations for the demonstrations are encouraged. Call 941-9488 or go to www.artcentertraversecity.com.
Enrollment for these workshops, as well as a variety of others, is still open. The workshops run through Sept. 12.
