TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce is launching a new speaker series titled "The Bully Pulpit" to highlight people, issues and public policy that impact the state and the northern Michigan region.

The series will kick off on July 22, noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival show grounds' VIP Club, 6535 Bates Rd. in Williamsburg.

The speaker will be Tim Skubick, long-time host of Michigan Public Television's news and interview show Off the Record.

Skubick is Michigan’s longest-serving state capital correspondent. He has more than 50 years of experience, including 47 years as host of the weekly Off the Record show produced by WKAR-TV in Lansing.

He is a member of both the Michigan Journalism and Broadcast Halls of Fame. Skubick reports on state government for radio and television outlets in Lansing and Detroit and the MIRS newsletter. He has won five Emmy awards.

Skubick has earned a reputation as a tough but fair interviewer of the state's leading political figures and business leaders, chamber Government Relations Director Kent Wood said in a release, and he is expected to provide insight into what to expect in the state political landscape in the months ahead.

Tickets are $35 for chamber members, $45 for the public. They include lunch, wine and two tickets to a 2019 Great Lakes Equestrian Festival show of the buyer's choice. A private group tour of the horse show facilities will be available upon request. Tickets are available at under the Events tab, or by visiting the Chamber’s Facebook page.

The Great Lakes Equestrian Festival is sponsoring the event. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available by contacting Molly McCallister at (231) 995-7101 or
