Shop Your Community Day

TRAVERSE CITY — During downtown Traverse City's Shop Your Community Day on Nov. 8 more than 200 merchants, restaurants and businesses will donate 15 percent of sales to the participating organization of the customer's choice.

In 2013, donations totaled $23,585.01. Participating merchants will be identified with shopping bags with balloons. Some merchants limit the promotion to purchases made with gift certificates.

Munson agrees to buy Mercy Hospitals

CADILLAC — Munson Healthcare reached a final agreement to purchase Mercy Hospital Cadillac, Mercy Hospital Grayling, Mercy Home Care and Hospice Northern Michigan and Mercy Manor from CHE Trinity Health.

The deal is expected to close on Feb. 1, 2015, pending approvals from government regulators and the Catholic Church.

Munson Home Health and Mercy Home Care and Hospice Northern Michigan would be blended into one unit under the purchase. Mercy Hospital employees will remain employees of CHE Trinity Health until July 1 and will work for Munson Healthcare through a contract between the two entities.

Leelanau wineries Toast the Season

TRAVERSE CITY — Tickets are on sale for the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail's annual holiday wine tour. Member wineries offer wine/food pairings during the event. Each ticket includes food and wine at 23 wineries, a souvenir wine glass and a gift bag.

Food will includes pumpkin soup, chocolate, cheese, pizzettas, pad Thai, venison chili and fresh-baked tarts. The tour is scheduled for two weekends: Nov. 1-2 and Nov. 8-9. Tickets cost $50 per person or $75 per couple. More information is available at

TCAPS receives $49,311 from Cherryland

GRAWN — Cherryland Electric Cooperative gave a patronage capital check for $49,311 to Traverse City Area Public Schools Interim Supertendent Paul Soma.

The money is part of a record $4.2 million the co-op returned to 34,000 members in October. Cherryland supplies power to nine TCAPS schools. Patronage capital is the money left over after the co-op pays its bills. Most members will see a credit on their October bills.

Short's Brewery new Vasa ski race sponsor

TRAVERSE CITY — Short's Brewing Company is the new title sponsor for the North American Vasa Festival of Races, northern Michigan's annual weekend of cross-country ski races held in Traverse City. Short's will be the Vasa's major sponsor for 2015-2017 and will have naming rights on all Vasa events. Based in Bellaire, Short's is the state's third largest craft brewery.

45th Parallel Realty becomes Real Estate one

ELK RAPIDS — 45th Parallel Realty Premier is in the final phase of a transition that was started in 2009 when the real estate firm joined forces with Real Estate One. The Elk Rapids office, which most recently operated under a dual logo, is making a complete transition to the Real Estate One brand. The transition will be complete by late October, including yard signs, office signage, web branding, marketing and all internal licensing and identity standards.

Bay Area Urology partners with Munson

TRAVERSE CITY – Bay Area Urology physicians Daniel Flewelling, Ward Gillett, Robert Hall, Jay Starr and Wayne Stefanciw partnered with Munson Medical Center on Oct. 1, 2014. The physicians will continue practicing out of their office at 3922 Cedar Run Road.

Munson pain management clinic moved

TRAVERSE CITY – Munson Medical Center’s Comprehensive Pain Management Program recently moved to a new space at Munson Community Health Center. The clinic is now at 550 Munson Avenue in Traverse City.
