NEW YORK — A pair of Lake Leelanau wineries claimed medals at the ninth annual New York International Wine Competition.
45 North Vineyard and Winery and Boathouse Vineyards each earned a gold medal at the competition that featured more than 50 different categories.
Boathouse Vineyards struck gold in the Riesling category with its 2017 Dry Dock Dry Riesling. 45 North Vineyard claimed gold in the Chardonnay category with its 2017 Reserve Chardonnay.
More than 1,400 submissions from two dozen countries competed in the event.
45 North won two silver medals with a 2017 Unoaked Chardonnay and a 2017 Medium Sweet Riesling in the category of Riesling — .71-3 percent residual sugar.
Each of the Lake Leelanau wineries won a bronze medal, Boathouse with a 2017 Pinot Noir and 45 North with a sparkling peach in Varietal Wines, Flavored, Sweet, Carbonated.
In addition to the medals, 45 North Vineyard and Winery and Boathouse Vineyards won state awards. 45 North was named the Michigan Winery of the Year while Boathouse claimed the title for Michigan Riesling Winery of the Year.
