Sheriff’s Lt.: Flight leads to drunken driving arrest

TRAVERSE CITY — A South Carolina woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after a reported flight from a crash.

A sideswipe vehicle crash was reported about five minutes before midnight Friday near a movie theater. The motorist was found near a golf course near Silver Lake and Zimmerman roads, said Grand Traverse County sheriff’s acting Lt. Chris Oosse.

The woman, 45, was arrested on suspicion of both fleeing the scene of a car crash and drunken driving. A breath test registered a 0.2 percent blood-alcohol level, Oosse said.

Beitner Road lane closure

TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse County Road Commission expects to close a lane on Beitner Road from Williams Road to U.S. 31 on July 23. Traffic will be reduced to one lane so crews can work along the shoulder from 8 a.m. to around noon. Motorists are encouraged to seek another route.

Author event canceled

TRAVERSE CITY — A July 24 event with former Time magazine foreign correspondent Charles R. Eisendrath and local host Doug Stanton has been canceled. Eisendrath plans to discuss his memoir “Downstream from Here” at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22 at Dog Ears Books in Northport.
