Park events July 6

EMPIRE — Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore park rangers and the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society host events July 6 at the Dune Climb. View the sun using a solar telescope from 4-6 p.m. Return from 9-11 p.m. to watch the sunset and see the stars, moon and planets. A National Park pass is required for entry. EMPIRE — Historic Sleeping Bear and Friends of Sleeping Bear combine their events “Heritage Walkers” and “Walk in the Park” at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays July 9 through Aug. 29. Each day features a different location around Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Family caregiver workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan and MSU Extension offer a free family caregiver workshop on Mondays from 1-2:30 p.m. starting July 29. Local artists recognized

INDIANAPOLIS — Two artists from Suttons Bay were recently recognized at the annual Eiteljorg Indian Market and Festival in Indiana in June. Aydrian Day received the Margot L. Eccles Youth Award for his beadwork jewelry “Galaxy.” James Day earned an award in the Best of Cultural Items category for his piece “Waabiigwanag.”

Class of 1969 reunion events

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City High School Class of 1969 hosts events for its 50th reunion Aug. 9-10. A casual gathering is set for Friday night at Lucky Jack’s. Cash bar, bowling, arcade games and laser tag available for purchase. A golf tournament starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Interlochen Golf Course. Cost is $35 and includes 18 holes with a cart. Tour Traverse City Central High School at 11 a.m. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Lodge. A cash bar is available. Cost is $40 per person.
