A Grand Traverse Sheriff's Department employee is under investigation for an "alleged assault," authorities said.
Undersheriff Nate Alger wouldn't provide a name, or say what position the employee holds. Michigan State Police are investigating, he said, and sheriff's officials won't comment until that investigation is complete.
"We want to have a good understanding of what happened," he said.
No charges have been filed, and the employee hasn't been arrested, Alger said. The employee remains at work pending the investigation.
State police at the Cadillac Post confirmed an investigation was ongoing, but wouldn't provide details.
Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Alan Schneider said a special prosecutor, likely Leelanau County Prosecutor Joe Hubbell, will be appointed to the case.
Hubbell said he hadn't yet received paperwork assigning him special prosecutor, and couldn't comment. The Michigan Attorney General's office is responsible for assigning special prosecutors.
