TRAVERSE CITY — The League of Women Voters of the Grand Traverse Area and Traverse City Area Public Schools are sponsoring a public forum on proposed changes to the way Michigan funds its public schools.

Forum panelists will discuss the Michigan Public Education Finance Act, a proposal to, among other things, tie state school funding directly to students, not districts, allowing students to take courses from any public institution through online classes or by traveling between different schools.

The panel is comprised of state Board of Education President John Austin, TCAPS Superintendent Stephen Cousins, Suttons Bay Public Schools Superintendent Michael Murray and David Arsen, a professor of K-12 education administration at Michigan State University.

The event is scheduled for April 24 at 5:30 p.m. at Traverse City West Middle School.
