Robert "Bob" James Johnson Jr., of Traverse City, passed away on Sept. 3, 2010, at Munson Hospice House, from injuries in a motorcycle accident. Bob was born on April 8, 1954, in Oakland County, to the late Robert and Carolyn (Rogers) Johnson.
On Sept. 4, 1982, Bob married Geri (Skop) in Gaylord. Together they have shared 28 wonderful years of marriage.
Bob was a passionate motorcyclist and was always looking for an excuse to ride, even if it was only to the hardware store.
A member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, he was the recent chair for the annual Boats on the Boardwalk event.
Bob was the owner of Johnson Woodcraft and restored many wood boats, as well as building new ones. He loved to keep busy and was always creating something.
Bob and Geri enjoyed camping along the Manistee River with family and friends and was always up early to see the sunrise and maybe go for a ride.
Bob is survived by his wife, Geri; their son, Alex Johnson (Liz Brown), of Traverse City; sisters, Maureen (Charlie) Cook, of Waterford, Mass., JoAnn (Jim) Wickizer, of Onalaska, Wis., and Donna Johnson, of Gaylord; brother, Russ (Nancy) Johnson, of Gaylord; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service celebrating Bob's well-lived but short life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a scholarship donation to the Great Lakes Boat Building School, 485 Meridian Street, Cedarville, MI 49717-9790, in Bob's name. He would be pleased to have the boat-building legacy continue.
