TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City took a key weekend series over St. Louis, which leads the North Division in the North American Hockey League, with a 4-1 win Sunday.
The Bandits had won 4-1 Friday night, and the North Stars 5-3 Saturday night.
Travis White had a goal and an assist to lead the North Stars (12-8-1). Tim Opie, Michael Szmatula and Sean Murphy also tallied. Alec Shields drew two assists.
Opie staked the North Stars to a 1-0 lead in the first period after redirecting a shot by Shields. White and Szmatula netted second period goals to give Traverse City a 3-0 edge.
After the Bandits' Isak Quakenbush tallied midway through the third period, Murphy responded four minutes later to ice it.
"I thought we played pretty well defensively," Palumbo said, "and we got some good goaltending early. I finally started to see us do some of the things we've been working on offensively. Our first goal was in traffic in front of the net. Our second and third goals came on good forechecks. We've been working on our forecheck pressure because it hasn't been very good."
Goalie Tyler Marble turned aside 25 shots and was named the game's No. 1 star.
Palumbo was pleased with how his team responded.
"I wasn't upset with our effort Friday night, but as the weekend went on I thought our positional play just kept getting better and better," he said. "It showed in some of the success we had."
