A veteran of the newspaper industry in Detroit has joined the Record-Eagle staff as the newspaper's controller.
John Totoraitis, who spent nearly 30 years working at Detroit newspapers, joined the Record-Eagle staff last week, succeeding Tom Rochford as head of the newspaper's business office.
Totoraitis is a native of Detroit who joined the accounting staff of the Detroit News in 1979.
He worked in various accounting and technology capacities through the joint operating agreement that merged the business operations of the News and the Detroit Free Press.
He retired in 2008 as vice president of information technology for the Detroit Media Partnership and moved to northern Michigan to work as a consultant.
Totoraitis, 54, holds a master's degree in accounting from Wayne State University and a bachelor's degree in finance from Walsh College, in Troy.
He and his wife, Kristin, live in Peninsula Township. They have two grown children.
