Wrestling state finals under way

AUBURN HILLS -- Three Gaylord wrestlers posted first-round victories to highlight the first day of competition at the individual state finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Area wrestlers went a combined 7-22 in the first round.

For Gaylord, Andrew Olds (135 pounds) won by pin in 2:15 while Danny Sharrad (125) won 6-4 and Shane Gapinski (140) 21-7 in Division 2.

In Division 4, Mancelona's Cody Sehl (285) improved his season mark to 51-0 with a forfeit win. Andy Anderson of TC St. Francis won 19-2 by technical fall at 160 pounds while Manton's Jim Dyer (189) won 12-8.

Grayling's Cody Collen (145) was the lone area wrestler to win in Division 3, posting a 16-9 victory.
