Wolves awarded victory by forfeit

London forfeits due to travel woes; TC home Saturday

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Wolves extended their division lead without even stepping foot on the field this weekend.

The North American Football League awarded the Wolves with a 2-0 forfeit victory over London after the Silverbacks were unable to make it to the game due to travel problems.

The win puts Traverse City at 3-0, ahead of London and Capital City, who are both 2-2. It also moves this Saturday's game between Traverse City and London to Thirlby Field. The two teams were slated to play a home-and-home series, but because of London's travel woes, the Silverbacks will lose a home game and instead play in Traverse City at 7 p.m.

The schedule switch gives the Wolves three straight home dates, starting with Saturday's game against London.

London was unable to rent a bus to travel to the game because of the Canadian Civic Holiday weekend that is one of the busiest travel days of the year north of the border. Wolves owner Daniel Skibbe said the Silverbacks then tried to rent cars for their players to drive over, but when they arrived Saturday to pick them up, the rental location was out of vehicles.
