Traverse City Wolves clinch division title

TC wraps up regular season at Indianapolis

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Wolves remained perfect at home Saturday night.

And in the process clinched the Central Lakes division title in the North American Football League.

The Wolves improved to 7-2 with a convincing 46-6 win over the Ypsilanti Yellow Jackets. Traverse City finished the regular season with a 5-0 home record.

Traverse City, which has qualified for the playoffs, closes out the regular season Saturday in Indianapolis.

Anthony Stewart rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns in the win. The Wolves gained 253 yards on the ground. D.J. Szymoniak led the way with 93 yards on 11 carries. Kyle Verschuren added 69 yards.

Quarterback Will Moran completed 6 of 11 passes for 70 yards and a score.

Nick Carlson caught three of those passes for 38 yards and a touchdown. Bryan Travis had two catches for 22 yards.

The Wolves' defense completely stymied Ypsilanti, which finished with a negative 65 yards on the ground. The lone Ypsilanti score came on a 92-yard fumble return. Traverse City had 19 first downs, Ypsilanti four.

Ryan Brown led the defense with nine tackles, seven behind the line. He forced a fumble in the end zone that teammate Pablo Bocardo Jr. recovered for a score. Bocardo kicked a 30-yard field goal and five extra points.

Tyler Alpers was in on six stops. He also intercepted a pass.

Mike Hansen had 2.5 sacks.

Tim Ohlert retuned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown.
