James throws for 222 yards and three scores

TRAVERSE CITY — Quarterback Aaron James completed 11 of 18 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns Saturday night as the Traverse City Wolves defeated the Michigan Vikings 54-6 in a North American Football League game at Thirlby Field.

The Wolves (5-1) led 22-0 at half.

Michael Stagg, Josh Tomaszewski and Aaron Bennett hauled in the scoring passes. Bennett and Tomaszewski caught their TD passes in the first half. Stagg opened the third quarter by taking a completion nearly 45 yards for a score.

Brandon Anderson rushed for 33 yards and two scores —and also starred defensively. He had eight tackles and four sacks from his end position.

B.J. Chandler led the ground game with 100 yards in 12 carries. He scored once.

Jamarcus Martin added 85 yards on two reverses. One went 37 yards for a touchdown. The other set up Anderson's second touchdown run.

Corey Edwards returned a punt 33 yards for a touchdown, too.

Tyler Alpers was also in on eight tackles for the Wolves. He intercepted a pass that led to a score, too.

Jay Peitsch and Karey Morrow each finished with eight tackles and a sack.

The Vikings averted a shutout with a last minute touchdown when Tyrone Gordon hauled in a 68-yard pass.

The game started 30 minutes late because the Vikings had travel issues.
